Talk by Rob Hopkins: Transition Stories – local solutions for a sustainable society
Talk by Rob Hopkins, Transition Network. ”Transition Stories – local solutions for a sustainable society”. The last day of his week long tour of Sweden and Denmark. The actual talk will be around 45 minutes, after which will be a discussion with invited guests. There will be time for Q&As and networking after.
Rob Hopkins is an independent activist and writer on environmental issues, based in Totnes, England. He is best known as the founder and figurehead of the Transition movement, which he initiated in 2005.
Rob Hopkins holds a doctorate from Plymouth University (2011) on the subject of transition (Localisation and Resilience at the Local Level: The Case of Transition Town Totnes). He is a visiting fellow at Plymouth University, in July 2013 was awarded a honorary doctorate by the University of the West of England, and in October 2016, he was awarded a honorary doctorate by the University of Namur.
In 2012 he was voted one of the Independent’s top 100 environmentalists and one of ‘Britain’s 50 New Radicals’. Hopkins have appeared on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Four Thought’ and on ‘A Good Read’, appear in the French film phenomenon ‘Demain’ (‘Tomorrow’), have spoken at TED Global once, and at 3 TEDx events. He is an Ashoka Fellow, a keen gardener and one of the founders of New Lion Brewery in Totnes and a Director of Totnes Community Development Society, the group behind Atmos Totnes, a very ambitious community-led development project.

Magnus Nilsson i samtal på Malmö konsthall
Magnus Nilsson, professor i litteraturvetenskap vid K3, Malmö högskola, deltar i samtalet ”Serier, samhället, censur” på Malmö konsthall den 8 oktober.
Samtalet ges på engelska, och anordnas av Kunskapsklubben i samarbete med Historielabbet, Malmö Konsthall och den egyptiska serieorganisationen Koshk.
New research project about urban planning in Sweden and Russia
What are the generating factors and challenges faced by each city or locality? What are the belief systems, modes of reasoning and configurations of interests underlying planning in the Russian and Swedish contexts? What are the processes of citizen involvement? How are issues as gender equality, ethnic diversity and individual functional variation included and represented? What mechanisms ensure that such interests are carried over into the overall comprehensive plan?
Congratulations to Bo Peterson and Derek Hutcheson who have received funding from Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD). The project seeks to examine the processes of urban planning in Sweden and Russia, with a focus on the input, control and output legitimacy of that process. Read more about the project

Doktorand aktuell med offentligt konstverk
Marika Hedemyr, Doktorand vid K3 är aktuell med installationen Next to You at Korsvägen i Göteborg. I konstverket görs besökaren delaktig i ett filmiskt händelseförlopp via sin privata smartphone. Verket är samtidigt en del av Hedemyrs forskning, som handleds av Susan Kozel.

The Migration Seminar Fall 2017

- The Migration Seminar is a multidisciplinary forum for researchers from all faculties at Malmö University with an interest in migration, integration, diversity and related issues. Master students interested in the research field are also invited and welcome to participate in the Migration Seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to facilitate exchange of ideas and knowledge, and to stimulate pluralism of perspectives, theories and methods. The seminar offers a wide variety of research related activities ranging from paper and project presentations to especially invited public figures and panel debates. It also hosts the seminar series of the Willy Brandt Guest professor. As the seminar has a distinctly international profile, both with respect to attendance and topics, most sessions are held in English.
