Om boken:
Politisk korrekthet, PK, har under de senaste decennierna fått en alltmer framträdande plats i svensk offentlighet. Uttrycket är vagt och elastiskt, men tydligt i sina negativa associationer. Retoriskt ställs det ofta i motsats till samhälleliga värden som måste försvaras – konstnärlig frihet, akademisk frihet och fritt tal i största allmänhet. Men vad innebär egentligen PK och på vilket sätt är det ett hot mot yttrandefriheten?

I Tänka fritt eller tänka på andra angrips frågan från två håll. Å ena sidan empiriskt och begreppsligt, i syfte att precisera olika innebörder av PK och hur dessa påverkar yttrandefrihetens värden.Å andra sidan normativt och teoretiskt, i syfte att mejsla ut principer för hur ett tolerant samhälle ska förhålla sig till den liberala demokratins inneboende spänning mellan rätten att tänka fritt och skyldigheten att tänka på andra.

Med sin på en gång vetenskapliga och essäistiska form är detta en bok som vänder sig till såväl forskare och studenter som en bredare allmänhet med intresse för frågor om yttrandefrihet och samhällsdebatt.

Fredagen den 15 mars mellan 08:30-12:30 arrangerar Fakulteten för kultur och samhälle en workshop på temat internationalisering. Workshopen vänder sig till all personal – administrativ och undervisande – som är intresserad av hur vi på MAU kan arbeta med internationalisering.

On Thursday October 11 at 17.00, GPS guest professor Per Mouritsen will hold a talk at Malmö University’s after work-lecture series titled Two of a kind? – integration politics in Denmark and Sweden. Per Mouritsen is a visiting researcher from Aarhus University in Denmark.

As a researcher, Per Mouritsen, who recently published this op-ed in Aftonbladet, focuses on national differences in regards to integration politics. In this talk, he will explore the differences between Sweden and Denmark and the dynamics between citizenship and immigrant rights on the one hand and duties and obligations on the other hand. Per’s presentation will be followed by a conversation with IMER doctoral student Johan Ekstedt and an opportunity for audience questions.

The lecture is a part of the series Inside the mind of a professor – meet and mingle with Malmö University researchers. It is free of charge and everyone is welcome. There will be beer, wine, coffee, the and snacks for sale.

On December 5 and 6, research platform Russia and the Caucasus Regional Research (RUCARR) at Malmö University is organizing a conference titled Promoting International Dialogue and Protecting Cultural Heritage in the Caucasus.

The two main themes for conference are:

• strategies and efforts to promote dialogue across the Caucasus region
• the protection and study of the cultural and linguistic heritage of the peoples of the Caucasus

Welcome to a “spikning” of Josef Chaib’s doctoral thesis titled Evidence, Expertise and ’Other’ Knowledge. Governing Welfare Collaboration. As a doctoral student at the Department of Global Political Science, Josef Chaib has been researching collaborations in public administration. His thesis is part of a VR-funded research project.

Welcome to the 90% seminar of Christina Hansen, PhD-student at the departments of Urban Studies and Global Political Studies. The seminar title is Solidarity in diversity: Activism as a pathway of migrant emplacement.

Opponent is Margit Mayer of Freie University Berlin. The Internal reading group includes Diana Mulinari (Lund University), Carina Listerborn (Urban Studies, Malmö University) and Christina Johansson (Global Political Studies, Malmö University).

The dissertation manuscript has been circulated among the colleagues affiliated with MUSA programme. Other interested colleagues who plan to participate in the seminar can receive it at request either from Christina (christina.hansen@mau.se) or from her PhD supervisor Maja Povrzanović Frykman.

The Department of Global Political Studies welcomes a group of seven research interns, who will be here for the duration of the semester. A research internship is a good option within the 2-year Master’s programmes at GPS. Most of the interns will be sitting on the 10th floor in Niagara.

Den 28 maj har studenterna i kursen Law and Practice of the United Nations — Model United Nations ett rollspel i form av ett möte i FN:s Generalförsamling som avslutande examination.

Kursen har utmaningsbaserat lärande som grund och ges på engelska med ett tvärvetenskapligt perspektiv. Kursens andra modul är helt konstruerad kring en så kallad Model United Nations och är den första i sitt slag i Sverige att använda rollspel som modell för examination.

Både kursen och examinationen, som hålls i Teaching Lab på Gäddan, ingår i en pågående forskningsstudie kring utmaningsbaserat lärande vid Centrum för akademiskt lärande ( AKL).

Hundred years have passed since the disintegration of the Russian Empire and the declared independence of several countries in the Caucasus including Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia and the North Caucasian Mountain Republic. To commemorate this anniversary, RUCARR organizes a one-day seminar where several ambassadors and researchers discuss the contemporary role and importance of these short-lived periods of independence.

The seminar includes discussions with Malkhaz Kakabadze, the Ambassador of Georgia to Sweden and Finland, Adish Mammadov, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Sweden and Artak Apitonyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to Sweden. The two morning sessions are devoted to Georgia and Azerbaijan, and the two afternoon sessions will focus on Armenia and the Mountain Republic.
