Dear all,
The Department of Urban Studies is thrilled to host Professor Ola Söderström from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland on a two-day visit to Malmö.
I would like to invite all PhD students, as well as adjunkter and lecturers at KS to participate in a seminar with Ola on Friday October 31st, 10:00-12:00 in U524. The session will be organized as a discussion seminar where participants can present their projects, research concerns or theoretical questions. Ola will come prepared with specific comments so if you want to participate please send a one-page abstract of your work/topic you would like to discuss by October 20th to claudia.fonseca@mah.se.
Ola currently works with urban globalization and the role of images in urban production but has also worked ”on the social construction of heritage, the role of the visual in urban planning, collaborative procedures in urban planning and the globalization of urban spaces.” His work involves analyzing society as material and spatialized culture, in other words, studying the reciprocal relationships between ideas, social relationships and practices, on the one hand, and material forms on the other.
Ola has also written about gentrification and mobility, for example Re-shaping the city. How mobility shapes architecture and urban form and From urban wastelands to new-build gentrification: the case of Swiss cities. You can find attached one of Ola’s latest articles, Smart cities as corporate storytelling.
