The results of the recent election of a teacher representative on the Malm\u00f6 University Board are in. Helena Holmstr\u00f6m Olsson, who is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the Faculty for Technology and Society, <\/strong>was elected to serve as one of the Board\u2019s three teacher representatives. She will serve from April 9, 2018 until April 30, 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Malm\u00f6 University staff voted in the online election, which was held between March 21 and April 2. The results were presented at the Vice-Chancellor\u2019s decision meeting on April 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel very excited and honored to serve in this role. The university-status offers a range of possibilities for us to further develop our profile on both the education and research side. I will work to strengthen our relationships with external partners and with industry and to find flexible teaching models and opportunities that promote life-long learning for our different types of students,\u201d says Helena Holmstr\u00f6m Olsson.<\/p>\n

Helena Holmstr\u00f6m Olsson has previous similar experience from serving on the Gothenburg University Board for several years. She also has previous experience from developing education programmes at Malm\u00f6 University and several other academic institutions in Sweden and abroad.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel strongly for the need to create an environment where industry and academia can meet. This will result in impactful research as well as excellent opportunities for our students to apply, and practice the skills they have learned. I intend to use my mandate on the University Board and my professional experience to strengthen our partnerships with both private and public sector actors and to make sure that our students have the sought-after skills needed for the job market, both today and in the future, says Helena Holmstr\u00f6m Olsson.<\/p>\n

Helena Holmstr\u00f6m Olsson conducts her research within the Software Center<\/a>, which is a research collaboration between 11 software-intensive companies in the embedded systems domain and five Swedish universities. Her research focuses on data-driven development, agile development practices, software- and business ecosystems and autonomous systems. She is currently active in a number of collaborations in which she works closely with companies in relation her research. <\/p>\n

The position that Helena Holmstr\u00f6m Olsson now assumes was vacated when Magnus Nilsson, one of the University Board\u2019s three teacher representatives, left his post due to a new position as Vice Dean at the Faculty of Culture and Society. In the election, she won against Lena Andersson, lecturer at the Faculty of Teaching and Society, and Ewa Carin Ekberg, professor at the Faculty of Odontology.<\/p>\n
