Hutcheson, Associate Professor of Political Science at the Department of Global Political Studies, is the author of a research book recently published by Oxford University Press. <em>Parliamentary Elections in Russia: A Quarter Century of Multi-Party Politics<\/em> is the first English-language book in almost two decades to look in-depth at the evolution of elections in Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Book synopsis<\/strong><br \/>\nAs a nuclear power, permanent UN Security Council member, emerging Arctic\u00a0hegemon and the largest state in the world, Russia is of extreme importance in global politics. In the first long-term analysis of Russian parliamentary elections, Derek S. Hutcheson explores the country&#8217;s seven rounds of election since 1993, and also sets Russian politics into a wider context. Hutcheson<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Book launch event on April 19<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wpmu.mah.se\/rucarr\/\">Russia and the Caucasus Regional Research<\/a> (RUCARR) is organising a launch event for the book at 15:30 on Thursday April 19. Following an introduction by Bo Petersson, Co-Director of RUCARR,\u00a0Derek S. Hutcheson\u00a0will hold a brief talk about his new book, followed by a reception.<\/p>\n<p>The book launch will be in the GPS Lounge on the ninth floor of the Niagara building.
