Ur motiveringen:  “KS nominates Daniela DeBono for The Stefan Bengtsson Research Leader Award for her significant contribution to strengthening and developing research on migration-human rights nexus at Malmö University, particularly to irregular migration as one of the most prominent political and humanitarian challenges for the EU. Her research has broadened the scope of migration studies at Malmö University and enhanced their international visibility. The interdisciplinary character of DeBono’s research reflects her training in anthropology, sociology, human rights and migration studies. She presented papers based on field research in Sweden, Malta and Italy at some 70 international conferences, workshops and seminars. Her books and articles on migrants’ experiences of forced return, on reception in the EU as well as on immigration detention policy on EU islands on the Central Mediterranean Route have been the ground for her upcoming academic promotion (to docent status). DeBono’s work fulfills Malmö University’s ambition to host research of high academic standards, which is documented in her record of attracting competitive international funding, notably from EU research funds. The contacts Daniela established in the UK academia during PhD studies at the University of Sussex, her participation in the research network on Immigration Detention (coordinated by Professor Janet Cleveland, McGill University, Canada) and her affiliation to Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute, Florence (within the outgoing Marie Curie COFAS Fellowship), stand as particular contributions to Malmö University’s visibility and academic prestige.”
